6ix9ine, who was facing a minimum sentence of 37 years in prison, he was finally sentenced to 24 months in jail, thanks to his cooperation in the FBI investigation that you can read more about in this article.
The cooperation provided by Daniel Hernández in the FBI investigation against the Nine Trey Bloods gang in New York has been decisive for him to have been able to benefit from this drastic reduction in his sentence.
If we subtract from the two years in jail the thirteen months that Tekashi has already spent behind bars, the news is that Six Nine could be free as early as November. But there is still more.
Today we have read XXLMag a very interesting testimony from 6ix9ine's lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, who assures that the rapper will be released from prison in August. Why? Very easy: by the 85% rule.
What is the 85% rule that will set 6ix9ine free?
It's very simple. In the United States, every prisoner has the obligation to comply with at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for any type of prison benefit. In 6ix9ine's case, we'd be talking about his release. While the rule isn't always enforced (it's essential that the inmate demonstrate good behavior), yesterday, his lawyer assumed the rapper would be able to leave prison early:
"We are a little disappointed," Tekashi's lawyer commented yesterday when he left the court. "We hoped that the government's recommendation to release him for the time served would be followed, but it was in the hands of the judge." And he continued: “Daniel will have to serve another seven months and twelve days because the time that has already passed counts in his sentence. He knows that he will be able to go home in August and that he can focus on rebuilding his career and his relationships."
