Let no one be alarmed. Except for surprise, Bizarre and Eminem are still friends. In the world of hip hop, it is compatible to say that someone is a "tyrant" and still be like brothers.. Bizarre, the most singular of the members of D12, the late hip hop group that Eminem formed along with five of his childhood friends: Proof, Kon Artis, Swifty, Kuniva and Bizarre, has expressed himself in these terms. This is news today for the release of his new album, Rufus, thanks to which he has offered a very interesting interview on the American radio station Hot 107.9.
When asked about the experience of working in the studio side by side with Eminem, two words from Bizarre's testimonial stand out above the rest: "Hell. Torture”, he assured, we insist, with a sense of humor:
"Marshall is a tyrant in the studio. He is a perfectionist. You could spend three or four hours in the fishbowl doing your verse until it was right. Every word, every sentence has to be perfect. That guy, he's so obsessed. One time, we were in the studio recording and we went to do some Christmas shopping. Upon returning, this guy did my adlib*. It sounded exactly like me. But it was funny". «He taught us how to be perfectionists and details for our solo careers»
*In terminology musical, adlibs refers to the improvised choruses (or sometimes simple monosyllables) that play in the background, so characteristic of the rap/trap scene lately and in the music of groups such as Migos. Examples of adlibs are the "skrrrrrt, cookie!, hoof, hoof and other onomatopoeias used to fill the silences in the songs".
“Eminem feels that if he doesn't have raps ready, he shouldn't be in the studio. I'm the other way around: I don't want to rap unless he's in the studio.
Not just Eminem. Proof ruled in D12, and a lot
About Proof, Bizarre has also had very interesting words to share:
“He was the leader, the general, the dictator. The best friend. Even the security guards had to have a D12 tattoo. He did something that I don't know if the rest of the groups will do, but he insisted that the profits always be divided equally, regardless of who did what; chorus, base, verses, it doesn't matter».
Sadly, Proof died from gunshot wounds in April 2006. after an altercation in a Detroit bar. Bizarre was, for the first twelve hours, one of the main suspects in his murder because the person who was next to Proof at the time of his death mentioned his name.
Beginnings of D12, the group of Eminem's friends
In the interview, Bizarre has remembered how was the moment in which Eminem signed him for D12:
"He called me, and I asked who he was and he said 'It's me, Marshall!' At that time I was working as a security guard in a hospital. We couldn't take personal calls, you know? He told me that he had signed with Dr.Dre and I told him I didn't believe him. He told me it was true and that he wanted to bring us all with him [to Los Angeles]. So I went to see my boss and resigned.”
It all started in the Hip Hop shop, an old clothing store in Detroit that was used by rappers to improvise their battles of freestyles. It was Proof's idea to start a rap band. The mantra was always the same: “the first one who gets a contract comes back for the rest”. The first was Eminem. And he more than complied by bringing his friends to his own label, Shady Records, to found the band. D12 released two albums that did not do badly in sales and popular acceptance: devils night (2001) and D12World (2004).
Bizarre has remembered what the first tour he did with the rest of the members of D12 was like. Specifically, it was in 2001 within the Up in smoke tour along with legends like Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Warren G or Ice Cube. "We couldn't sing a single song because the set by Eminem was too short. We had to be very humble and accept that we were only there to dance and go to the back of the stage raising our arms », confessed Bizarre, who surprisingly claims to have barely spoken to Dr. Dre in his entire life. «I could count on the fingers of two hands the words that I have addressed to Dr. Dre. He talked to me, yes, but, you know? Is that he is Dr. Dre.
Eminem already said it in 'Kamikaze': "D12 is over"
After two albums and the death of Proof (second member to die after Bugz), D12 quietly evaporated. How did we learn about it? stepping stone included in Kamikaze, there came a time when Eminem just didn't have the strength to keep pulling the bandwagon. to take over the careers of each of his friends. Although they recorded a demo in 2015, in said song Eminem confesses that D12 is over.
Bizarre, the most eccentric of the members of D12 (who has even rapped about having sex with his dog and then taking her to the vet for an abortion), has just released Rufus, their fourth studio album.
