The Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary
These are known as a series of events that occurred in the life of the Virgin Mary, which are popularly known as Our Lady of Sorrows. Something very important to keep in mind is that the seven sorrows are not the same as the mysteries of the Rosary. The seven sorrows are as follows:
- Simeon's Prophecy
- The Flight into Egypt
- The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple
- Mary Finds Her Son on the Way to Calvary
- Jesus dies on the cross
- Jesus is Taken down from the Cross and Delivered to his Mother
- They Bury the Body of Jesus
These seven pains of the Virgin can also be represented as the seven swords that pierced her heart while she lived the sufferings of her son, since she had a close communication with him, he confessed that his heart was the same as his own son having her attached to each martyrdom until the day of his death.
What are the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin?
The Sorrows of the Virgin are seven that are mentioned in the Holy Bible, below we will describe each of them:
First Sorrow – Simeon's Prophecy
The first pain is carried out a few days after the purification established in the Law of Moses was fulfilled, since they took Jesus to Jerusalem to be able to present him to the great Lord as established by law, which stipulates that every firstborn male must be consecrated while a pair of turtle doves is given to him as a sacrifice.
At that time in the city of Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon, who was known to be very just and pious, he was simply waiting for the consolation of the Holy Spirit, since in a dream they had prophesied that he would not be able to die if he had not seen Christ.
For this reason, thanks to this dream, he decided to reach the temple, where, taking into account the law of the Lord that was prescribed for him, he took the child Jesus in his arms to bless him in the name of Christ, so that he could see his wish fulfilled and Having made his request, he could rest in peace, since he had seen the salvation of Christ spread throughout the earth.
The parents of Jesus were surprised by everything that Simeon said about his son, at one point this man approaches Mary and confesses that his son Jesus was destined to die but that he would rise again among many in Israel and he will go through a sword that will take away his soul to be able to discover each of the thoughts seen by you. Listen very well to what Christ wants to tell you, think carefully about what you do not understand, ask everything you do not know so that you can give yourself fully to the will of the Lord.
Second Sorrow – The Flight into Egypt
After having blessed Jesus, Joseph was presented with an angel of the Lord to warn him that Herod wanted to kill his son, so he recommended him to flee to Egypt with his child and his wife until he warned him again. When Joseph woke up he began to arrange everything to leave at night without raising suspicions, they lasted thirty long years in Egypt where they had a simple life such as a humble home in the small town of Galilee until Herod died without fulfilling his prophecy.
While living in Egypt, the Virgin Mary offered her help to the church so that every child born could be baptized and enter the world of Christ with a noble and pure soul to honor him. Because of this, many people began to understand her, and they began to value each new event that occurred within the small town. To learn more about the story of the Virgin, we invite you to read about Our Lady of Sorrows and discover how his life was full of sacrifice and love.
Third Sorrow – Jesus Lost in the Temple
After Herod died, Jesus' parents traveled constantly to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover feast, when Jesus turned twelve they took him to the feast as was customary each year. After a few days of the festivities and ready to return to Egypt, the child Jesus could not be found, they thought that he could be inside the caravan and headed to look for him at the house of relatives and closest acquaintances.
Despite the search, they did not find him, so they returned to the beginning to see where else he could be, after three more days they were finally able to find him, he was in the Temple, asking questions of the doctors who were in the Instead, many of them were very surprised by the wisdom that Jesus possessed.
When his parents saw him, they complained why he had gotten lost in this way, so in his way of responding, he replied that they should not worry because he had to take care of doing some of his father's things, they could not respond to such an answer. understand it but what they did not know was that Jesus had been sent by God to earth and he had entrusted him to do some things.
Fourth Sorrow – Mary Finds Her Son on the Way to Calvary
The fourth pain of Mary occurs at the moment when Jesus had his first fall after being whipped, she as the mother did not leave her son at any time, so being together they shared the pain they felt mutually, Mary to see to her hurt son and Jesus for having the horrible blows on his body and making his beautiful mother cry.
Fifth Sorrow – Jesus Dies on the Cross
When speaking about the fifth sorrow it is understood how Mary when she found herself in front of the Cross of Jesus could not believe that her son would lose his life in this way, Jesus when seeing his mother already nailed to the cross asked her to give him water because he was thirsty but what there was was a glass full of vinegar, so with a sponge tied to a stick they brought it to her so she could drink and at that moment was when she lowered her head she gave her spirit to Christ.
Mary had to wait three days for Jesus to be taken down from the cross, so the only one who was in such a sad moment after dying was her who with tears in her eyes asked the Lord for mercy, since she did not understand how her heart was so pure he could leave her helpless. Jesus, despite only being in spirit, could feel the warm love that his mother gave to his inert body asking him to return.
Sixth Sorrow – Jesus is taken down from the Cross and delivered to his Mother
Already on the third day, around sunset on Saturday, Mary and Joseph arrived at the place to ask Pilate for the body of their son, who with a knight of the guard made sure that Jesus was dead, when they were sure they took him down from the cross, placing him in a white sheet that Mary and Joseph had bought for him, then they placed him in a small tomb that they closed with a large rock that was to one side.
When Jesus is already dead on the cross, Mary takes a moment in front of her son to think about his Christian life and the holiness that he gave to the Lord, to understand what his weaknesses were in the life of his son, and to see if in this way he manages to get rid of the pain he feels in the face of loss and know how to cope with the mission that Christ gave Jesus since childhood.
When Jesus meets God in heaven, he confesses that he must return to his mother to give her the last hug and give her the mercy that she longs for allowing her son to suffer, but in addition to seeing her, he must have his purposes in mind. concrete way to get out of the world all the arrogance, lack of belief and sensuality.
Seventh Sorrow – They Bury the Body of Jesus
Mary, holding her beloved son in her arms, asks Joseph of Arimathea, who was secretly devoted to Jesus for fear of reprisals from the Jews, to ask for Jesus' body. When she asked Pilate, he refused, but minutes before he was to be taken to his holy burial, Nicodemus, another disciple of Jesus, arrived to wrap his body in multiple linens and spices, just as the Jews were buried at that time.
When burying Jesus they realized that the tomb where his body was going to rest was just below the groove where his cross was, this happened, since the Jews to respect such an honorable man decided to give him the only tomb that never had been used. When the body of Jesus was left inside the tomb, they decided to pray to God for the elevation of the soul and eternal peace that he deserved so that his mother Mary could find tranquility in her heart.
The Painful Life of the Virgin
What we call pains of Our Lady should not only be reduced to what she suffered on Calvary, since Christ's entire life was the cross and martyrdom. In this way we can say that the whole life of our lady Mary, mother of Christ, was one of tears.
The main characteristic with which we can observe the Virgin Mary is that she always had a beautiful unconditional and faithful love to give to those who were kind to her, in addition to the fact that she was completely willing to suffer for those close to her to show them love. that she feels for them and thus not see them suffer at any time as it happens to her with her son Jesus.
The Virgin Mary wept so much in her earthly life that the most admirable thing is that even though she is in heaven with her son, enjoying the promise of consolation, she still continues to weep for all of us, for all people, and for all the offenses that we men commit against her son Christ.
In the middle of the last century in the Salette, there was a period in which the Christian religion in France was facing great hostility, this cried in Fatima, as the children describe the sadness of the Virgin Mary, just as God might be offended by all the sins committed, and this shows his shepherd children all the horror that exists in hell and the great number of souls that go there.
She appears in Lourdes crying painfully and sadly encouraging penance in order to avoid all the tragedies and punishments that would be carried out on humanity. She also appears in Syracuse after the Second World War, and this time she wanted to perform a miracle, she made a simple image of her cry completely real tears so that everyone could see the miracles that she could do, these at the time they managed to collect and analyze, proving that they really were real tears compared to the same composition of human tears.

Amen"

Amen"
Eighth day
For the eighth day you must perform this prayer and leave a red candle lit for the whole night that represents the blood of Jesus:
"My Beautiful Virgin, for the pain with which you escorted your Son to the grave and left him buried there, grant me that I die with the help of religion and be buried among the faithful Christians with Christ, so that, on the day of judgment, manage to revive with the true Christians and be taken to the right hand of Christ. Amen"
ninth day
Finally, on the ninth day, the prayer must be made to glorify the burial and resurrection of Jesus, placing a glass of water next to a white candle so that he finds the way to our hearts, said prayer is:
"Oh my beloved Virgin Dolosa, award me that just as you, because of your pains, absorb great glory in heaven and triumph there as glorious queen of the martyrs, so I too, after a life afflicted with Christ, deserve to coexist perpetually in the glory, prosperous with Christ. Grant me, Queen of martyrs, to live on the cross with charity, to die on the cross with enthusiasm and to reign by the cross with glory. Amen"

Mary my mother, how beautiful it is to hear from the cross the phrases of Jesus
