In the same way that there is a physical world, there is a spiritual one. Although the latter cannot be perceived with the physical senses, it is perceptible with the spiritual ones. In that spiritual world a constant battle between good and evil is brewing. Gesture to which every Christian is called to participate as an intercessor and stand in the gap, as it is written in Ephesians 6:10-13

In order to participate in this battle, it is necessary for the Christian to prepare himself and use the tools given by God to face it. God has provided all the necessary tools so that the devil is constantly defeated, in a battle that our Lord Jesus Christ already conquered the victory in his sacrifice on the Cross. And in Christ Jesus that victory is ours too.

One of these powerful weapons in spiritual warfare is prayer. To learn more about it, we invite you to visit this link: Spiritual Warfare and the Importance of Prayer. There you will learn that this battle can be fought by praying at all times and being mindful of the authority God has given us in Christ Jesus to wage it, armed with His spiritual weapons. This aligns with the words of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:10-20.

Matthews Henry's Spiritual Warfare Prayer

Matthew Henry was an XNUMXth century theologian and minister of the Lord who is well known for his significant literary work called The Biblical Commentary. In this work, he makes a revealing exposition of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. But Matthew also left another legacy, which is writing a powerful spiritual warfare prayer.

In this prayer Matthew Henry succeeds in setting high the unchanging truth that God is powerful to defeat any enemy. This could only be done by scrutinizing the scriptures and then putting it into practice, using it in a brave way in said prayer.

Celestial father

In every prayer, the first thing we must do is place ourselves in the presence of God the Father and cry out to him:

Heavenly Father, I bow in worship and praise to you. Cover me with the blood of Jesus Christ as protection during this time of prayer. I surrender to you completely and unreservedly against all the works of the devil that may hinder this moment of prayer and I raise my prayers only to the living and true God, Jesus Christ.

I discard in this hour any participation of the devil in my prayer. To you, Satan, I command you to leave my presence with all your demons, in the mighty name of Jesus and I put the blood of Christ between us.

Heavenly Father, I praise you, I bless you, I adore you and I thank you. I recognize that only you are worthy to receive all the glory, honor and praise. He affirmed my obedience to You and I ask Your Holy Spirit to guide me in this moment of prayer. Thank you eternal Father! Because from eternity you have loved me. Thank you for Jesus Christ whom you sent into the world to die in my place and so that through him I might be redeemed. I thank you Lord Jesus Christ for your sacrifice, because through you, God has completely forgiven me. You Jesus have given me eternal life; You have justified me before the Father.

Thank you God because in Christ you have made me complete, and you have offered yourself to me as my daily help and strength. Heavenly Father, open my eyes so I can see how great you are and how complete your provision is this day. Father in the name of Jesus I take my place that you gave me with Christ in the heavenly places, with all principalities and powers under my feet.

In Christ is the Victory

Before entering the war we must be certain that Christ has already obtained the victory for each one of us:

Thank you Heavenly Father, for the victory that the Lord Jesus Christ won for me and because with him I am seated in heavenly places. With this faith, I declare that all principalities, powers and all evil spirits are subject to me in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you God for the armor that You have provided for me, so I put on:

the belt of truth

the breastplate of justice,

shoes of peace

And the helmet of salvation

I raise the shield of faith against all the fiery darts of the enemy,

and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

I use your Word against all the forces of evil in my life, I put on this armor, living and praying in complete dependence on Christ Jesus, blessed be his Holy Spirit.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that Jesus Christ dispossessed all principalities and powers; and he was triumphant over them on the cross. Father today, I claim all that victory for my life. Banned from my life all the insinuations, accusations and temptations of the devil. I declare in this hour that the Word of God is true and I decide to live in the light of the Word of God.

Heavenly Father, I choose to live in obedience to you, in submission and in fellowship with you. Open my eyes and show me the areas of my life that you don't like. Work in my life so that there is no place where the evil one can set foot. Show me any areas of weakness, any areas of my life that I need to intervene in so that I can please you. I am with you, with the power of the Holy Spirit working in my life.

In Christ we have a new nature

The Christian must daily maintain his faith, which is grace. Because salvation is by faith and not by works, in Christ we have a new nature:

Heavenly Father, by faith and depending on You, I cast off the old man and stand in the victory of the cross, where the Lord Jesus Christ provided cleansing from the old nature. I put on the new man and affirm myself in the victory of the resurrection, I take the provision that He made for me there to live above sin. Therefore, I cast off the old man with his egoism and put on the new nature with his love.

I cast off the fear of the old nature and put on the courage of the new nature. I take off all the weakness of the old nature and put on the strength of the new. I discard all the deceitful desires and vices of the old nature, to clothe myself with the justice and purity of the new.

I stand firm in the victory of the ascension and glorification of Christ, the Son of God, where all principalities and powers were submitted to Him.

I claim my place of victory in Christ, together with Him in victory over all the enemies of my soul. Blessed Holy Spirit, I ask you to fill me, penetrate my life and break every idol, cast out every enemy from me.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the expression of your will in all the days of my life, as you affirm in your Word. Therefore, I claim the will of God on this day. Thank you that you have blessed me with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Thank you, because you have given me a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

God's will

In prayer we must ask that God's will always be done in our lives. Because his will is good, pleasing and perfect:

Thank you God, for allowing me to live today in the fullness of your Holy Spirit, with love, joy and self-control. I recognize that this is your perfect and pleasing will for me, therefore I reject and resist all the efforts of the devil and all his evil spirits to want to rob me of what God wants for me. I refuse on this day to believe my thoughts, raising the shield of faith against all the accusations and insinuations that the devil wants to put in my mind. I claim the good, perfect and pleasing will of God in my life for today.

In the mighty Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I fully surrender to You, Heavenly Father. I give myself as a living sacrifice. I decide not to conform to this world. I decide to be transformed by the Holy Spirit for the renewal of my mind, and I beg you to show me your will and instruct me to walk today in the fullness of God's will.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, because the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for the destruction of strongholds, for the overthrow of arguments and every lofty thing that rises up against the knowledge of God, to take every thought captive to obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. For this reason, I disarm today in my life the strongholds of the evil one, and I destroy the plans that Satan has and has planned against me. I destroy the strongholds of the devil against my mind and subject every thought, body, soul and spirit to the obedience of Christ Jesus.

In Christ we are more than conquerors

When praying spiritual warfare as Christians we must always keep in mind the text of Romans 8:28-39. Because there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God:

Therefore I affirm, Heavenly Father, that you have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-control. In the name of Jesus I tear down any fortress that Satan has wanted to form against my emotions today, and I surrender them to You, God. I choose to make the right decisions of faith.

I destroy the strongholds that Satan has formed against my body today, and I surrender my body to the Holy Spirit, recognizing that I am the temple of God. Heavenly Father I rejoice in your mercy and goodness.

God in the name of Jesus I ask you to revive me through Your word and show me how Satan may be hindering, tempting, lying, falsifying and distorting the truth in my life. Guide me Lord to be energetic in prayer. Teach me to think your thoughts and give you the place you deserve in my life.

Heavenly Father, cover me with the Blood of Jesus Christ and I ask that the Holy Spirit bring to my life today the work of the cross, the work of the resurrection, the work of the glorification of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. . I give myself to You my God refusing to be discouraged, for you are the God of all hope. You have shown your power by raising Jesus Christ from the dead and I claim your victory over all satanic forces active in my life, and I reject these forces; I ask everything in the name of Jesus Christ and I thank you. Amen.
