The Sermon on the Mount is the first of five sermons that Jesus Christ gave at the beginning of his ministry. It is known as the Sermon on the Mount because the Lord went up to a high and spacious place to begin preaching the gospel (Matthew 5:1; Luke 6:17-19).
The Sermon on the Mount is considered the Constitution, the norms, the laws that govern the life of a Christian. It will also be implemented in the millennium, so every Christian should know about this message and apply it to his life.
Matthew 5: 1
Seeing the crowd, he went up the mountain; and sitting down, his disciples came to him

17 Then he went down with them and stood on a level place, with his disciples and a large crowd of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon, who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
It is presumed that this mount is near Capernaum where the Lord usually stayed. In the Holy Scriptures we are told that Jesus had already selected twelve of his disciples and had come to pray all night. We can assume that in humanity he was very tired.
However, people flocked to hear Jesus' message and be healed of their ailments and illnesses. Jesus, out of love, attends to the crowd and begins with this speech.
The central theme of this sermon was to teach about the harmony that exists between the Law and the New Covenant in Christ. That is, about the consecrated life that a Christian should lead. This life must be attached to the will of God, without falsehood, with love, knowledge, wisdom and discernment.
The importance of the sermon on the mount are the laws, rules that must govern the life of a Christian to please God. The Sermon on the Mount is not intended for the unconverted man. It is addressed to the believer who is part of the body of Christ.
In the Holy Scriptures we can appreciate this sermon in Chapters 5, 6 and 7 Matthew and a summary in Luke 6:20-49. As we know, Matthew is one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, therefore he is an eyewitness to this speech.
For his part, Lucas dedicated himself to investigating in depth and collecting data from the witnesses who were during the ministry of Jesus. Therefore, both provide us with very important data.

For the purpose of this article, we will place greater emphasis on Matthew, since he describes this event in greater detail and we will focus the subject on the first point: the beatitudes.
The beatitudes
The word blessedness comes from the Hebrew ashe and the Greek makarios, which means happy, fortunate, blissful, happy, blessed. It also means “blessed sayings.” Therefore, Jesus tells us that the believing children who keep his commandments will be blessed (John 14:21).
As we have warned, the sermon on the mount is the norms, laws to enter the Kingdom of God, hence the importance of knowing the content of this speech. A Christian must abide by these standards. As Christians, we have laws from heaven, from our new citizenship (Philippians 3:20-21)
The poor in spirit
Matthew 5: 3
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
This beatitude does not refer to material possessions. It refers to spiritual poverty. That is to say, that Christian who recognizes his impotence to resolve his situations. He recognizes that he needs God on a daily basis. He is spiritually hungry, eats the Word of God, seeks God in prayer daily (Luke 18:9-14; Matthew 23:12).
It is the humble or poor person in spirit who acknowledges his sin before God. A proud person believes that he can work things out for him and considers that he does not have to confess his sins. He considers that he can enter the Kingdom of Heaven on his own merits (Romans 3: 10-18; Revelation 3:17; Psalms 51:17; 34-18; Isaiah 66: 2-1; 57:15)
those who cry
The Christian who does not know the Sermon on the Mount cannot be a good Christian because he does not know how to live. Therefore, it is very important that the Christian knows the rules that regulate the life of the believer.
Matthew 5: 4
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
For many, crying cannot mean being happy. According to the sermon on the mount those who mourn will be happy. Now, Jesus Christ refers to the repentant sinner who weeps over his sin and confesses it (Mark 1:14-15; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Luke 19:41-42).
A repentant person cries in pain for what he has done with his life. A person crying for repentance is leading to the salvation of his soul. True repentance leads a person to suffer from spiritual pain, they feel miserable. That cry is blessed because it leads to eternal life.
It also refers to believers who mourn for the sin that surrounds them. When a person cries for the mistreatment of the environment, the animals. Cry for the mistreatment of children, for those who are sick, the murders, crimes; in general for the sin of the world.
Just as Christ cried for the sins of Israel and their rejection of the Truth, the true believer cries, because we have the same nature as God. His Spirit is in us (John 16:33; Luke 12:44; Isaiah 53:3-7)
The believer cries over illness, life's difficulties, economic trials, but God promises that we will laugh and be comforted. Someday we will be comforted and understand God's purposes (Psalm 126:5-6; Isaiah 53:10-12; Revelation 21:4)
the meek
Meekness is the ability of the Christian to submit the character and behave soft, docile and benign.
Matthew 5: 5
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
The meek man is characterized by living a life in the Holy Spirit, since part of the fruits that are manifested when we live in this way (Galatians 5:22; Proverbs 16:32: Numbers 12:13; John 4:34; 6: 38; Matthew 11:28-29).
The Lord leaves us in his Word a clear message about meekness in contrast to anger. The meek Christian is characterized by obeying and submitting to the Word of God.
Psalms 37: 8-10
8 Let go of anger, and cast off anger;
Do not excite yourself in any way to do evil.9 Because the wicked will be destroyed,
But those who hope in Jehovah, they will inherit the earth.10 Well, in a little while the bad guy won't exist;
You will observe its place, and it will not be there.
Those who hunger and thirst for justice
The man who hungers and thirsts for justice is seeking God. They are the people who are hungry for spiritual things, in this case God gives them food through the Word of God. He gives wisdom and knowledge to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (Psalms 42:1-2; John 6:35; Psalms 63:1; John 7:37-39; John 4:3-4: Isaiah 55:1-2 ; Revelation 21:5-6; Revelation 22:17).
A hungry person consumes food for the flesh and is satisfied, person when you start reading the Bible, you realize that spiritual hunger is not satisfied. You want to eat more and more because you are hungry.
Matthew 5: 6
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
the merciful
Mercy refers to the kindness, benevolence, kindness, and charity that we feel and show towards our neighbor. Cover some fruits of the Holy Spirit. For example, charity is defined as the love we have for our neighbor. As Christians we know that this is one of the commandments that God left us that we must fulfill.
Matthew 5: 7
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

A merciful Christian has these fruits in his daily life (Exodus 33: 18-19; 2 Chronicles 6: 40-41; Colossians 3: 12-13; Romans 2:4-5; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8; Matthew 22 :37-40; Luke 6:36)
clean of heart
When the Lord refers to the pure in heart, he is speaking of what flows from the heart. The Word of God associates the heart with the human mind. The ability to think, make decisions and reason.
According to the Word of God the thoughts of man, what his mouth speaks comes from the heart. A person with a pure heart does not speak rude words, does not plan anything against his neighbor (Proverbs 4:23; Jeremiah 17:9; Matthew 12:33-37; 1 Corinthians 2:16; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Hebrews 12: 15; Matthew 15:11-20; Matthew 6:22-23; Genesis 6:5-7).
Matthew 5: 8
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
A clean-hearted person is not rude, he is not vulgar. He speaks with wisdom. A person who daily seeks God and strives to detach himself from the things of the world speaks of the things of God. The Holy Spirit is transforming it from glory to glory. With the mind of Christ.
A person with a clean heart has a kind, benevolent character, because in his heart there is no rancor. On the contrary, all the evil in the world is first conceived in thoughts and then executed (Psalms 51:9-12; 24: 3-5; 15:1-2).
Lucas 6: 45
45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Peacemakers
Peacemakers are those people who seek peace because they know they have been justified by God (Romans 5:1; Galatians 5:22; 2 Corinthians 3:11-12; Hebrews 13:20-21; Romans 12:18). believers who are washed by the Blood of Jesus Christ and avoid strife, fights, conflicts.
A person who is justified by the Blood of the Lamb of God is filled with the Holy Spirit. He is characterized by being happy, satisfied, full of the presence of God, praises and sings to God.
Matthew 5: 9
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
The peace, the spiritual and mental peace that we seek is a sensation of tranquility, happiness, well-being, rest that fills us with deep rest.
We abandon fears, worries, we leave suffering behind because we are rested. In this sense, the disturbances of the world, the economy, politics, riots, social crisis, cease to have the power to take away that inner peace.
When we refer to inner peace we refer to the rest that God grants us. It is the feeling that Jesus gives us for faith in Him. Jesus promises us that those of us who have reconciled with Him will find a peace that surpasses everything our minds cannot imagine.
Filipenses 4: 7
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Even Jesus goes further. He warns us that we will not find the peace that He gives us in any sect, dogma or religion that we find in Him. Let us remember that God established the way and that is in Jesus.
Juan 14: 27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives . Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
If by faith you believe that Jesus will give you that inner peace that he promised, then you will rest in his promise. He will strive to pacify your home, work, interpersonal relationships, among others (Romans 16:20).
Persecuted
The Lord means that they are happy, blessed are those who are persecuted for living a righteous life, obedient to God, being a true Christian (1 Peter 4:1-5; Acts 5:40-42; 16:23).
Mattheww 7:7-8
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
