Biography and life of Saint Torpetes
Saint Torpetes was an Italian saint of the XNUMXth century. He was born in the city of Pavia and was the son of a wealthy Roman senator. Although Torpetes received a good education, he decided to abandon all his possessions to follow Christ. He became a monk and was ordained a priest. He was then sent on a mission to the city of Asti, where he worked tirelessly to convert the pagans to Christianity.
Saint Torpetes was known for his great charity and constantly prayed for those in need. Once, when a woman asked him for help for her sick child, he gave her all the money she had and then went to pray for the child. Upon returning, he found the child safe and sound.
As age progressed, San Torpetes retired to live as a hermit in the mountains near Asti. There he spent his days praying and fasting. One day, while he was praying, he heard the voice of Christ telling him: «Come, follow me». Obeying the call of Christ, San Torpetes left his hermitage and returned to Asti to announce the Gospel.
In Asti, Saint Torpetes preached so ardently that many pagans converted to Christianity. His missionary work did not go unnoticed by the Roman authorities, who arrested and cruelly tortured him. Despite being subjected to horrible suffering, Saint Torpetes did not renounce his faith and was martyred in 304 AD. His body was buried in Asti, where it soon became a place of pilgrimage for Christians from all over Italy.
