Saint Pollio is a popular saint in the Catholic tradition, and his intercession is asked for a variety of needs. He is often asked for help getting a job, improving finances, or overcoming problems at home. He is also asked to protect children and guide the young, and is considered especially protective of single mothers.
Biography and life of Saint Pollio
Saint Pollio was born in Egypt in the third century. He was the son of a pagan priest named Theophilus and a Christian woman named Eustoquia. Although Theophilus tried to turn his son away from the Christian faith, Pollio remained firm in his faith and was baptized by Saint Anthony the Abbot.
After his baptism, Saint Pollio left Egypt and went to Palestine, where he lived as a hermit in the desert for several years. In the fourth century, he moved to Jerusalem, where he lived as a monk in the Saint Sabas Monastery.
In the middle of the fourth century, Saint Pollio was ordained a priest and began to preach against paganism and Arianism. His preaching annoyed both the pagans and the Arian heretics, so they were persecuted by them. On one occasion, he was even stoned unconscious.
In the year 362, Saint Pollio was arrested along with other monks and brought before Julian the Apostate, who wanted to force them to renounce their Christian faith. However, not even torture could break them. Finally, Julian sentenced them to death and ordered that they be beheaded.
Prayer to Saint Pollio
The prayer to San Antonio de Padua is one of the most popular, since he is considered the saint of miracles. This prayer has many versions, but the best known is the following:
