Biography and life of Saint Pierius of Alexandria

Saint Pierius of Alexandria (Greek: Πετρίος Ἀλεξανδρεύς, Petros Alexandreus; fl. 3rd century) was a Bishop of Alexandria and a Christian martyr. He is credited with authoring a letter to Saint Clement of Rome, and is mentioned in the apocryphal tradition of the Gospel of Nicodemus.

According to Eusebius of Caesarea, Saint Pierius was "a man full of faith and fear of God" who served as Bishop of Alexandria during the reign of the Roman Emperor Decius (AD 249-251). In his Ecclesiastical History, Eusebius relates that Saint Pierius was arrested along with other Christians during the Decian persecution, and that he was tortured before being beheaded. His body was buried in the Babylonian Cemetery in Alexandria.

The apocryphal tradition of the Gospel of Nicodemus relates that Saint Pierius was arrested by order of King Herod Agrippa I (AD 37-44), who wanted to force him to renounce his Christian faith. According to the Gospel, Saint Pierius remained steadfast in his faith even after being tortured, leading Herod to order his execution. The Gospel also relates that Herod tried to burn the body of Saint Pierius after his death, but an angel prevented the flames from touching it.Prayer to Saint Pierius of Alexandria

Saint Anthony, my patron saint,
that with your example you guide me;
and with your help you protect me,
I ask you to help me.

That when you are sad or afflicted,
I remember you and comfort me;
and when I am distressed or afraid,
remember your example and encourage me.

That when you have doubts or problems,
I can come to you and enlighten me;
and when you have fears or difficulties,
remember your help and strengthen me.

That in all the moments of my life,
your presence always accompanies me;
