psalm 27-2

Psalm 27

The authorship of Psalm 27 is attributable to David, it was written more or less a thousand years before the coming of Christ. As we read David's life we can see that he always had to face persecution. Firstly, the contempt of his brothers, who saw him arrive at the field of war and because he was the youngest of them, they wanted to force him to go back (1 Samuel 17: 1-58)

He faced Goliath and there was nothing left but to accept his triumph. After defeating the Philistine giant, he had to hide from King Saul who saw David as a threat (1Samuel 18: 6-20). When he was chosen by God as king, his brothers did not accept this choice, because they always thought that it would be the eldest who would assume this responsibility.

His reign is only accepted by the tribe of Judah and later the other tribes were added recognizing him as the king of all Israel. Then his own sons plotted against David (2 Samuel 15: 1-37). All these vicissitudes led David to write this psalm. From the Christian point of view, this psalm has two visions, one for the Christian life and how we should live; and another compared to the passion of Christ.

The purpose of this article is to reveal both versions: the first about the Christian life in the light and trust in God, and the second, which is probably a hidden message about the Lord's passion and death.

psalm 27-3

Analysis of Part I of Psalm 27

Psalm 27 is one of the favorite psalms of the synagogues and the Christian church, because it is a psalm that gives us hope and that allows us to take refuge in the Lord, which gives us a guarantee that no matter what situation we are going through, the Lord is with us. U.S.

This psalm has two clearly defined parts. The first is made up of verses 1-6 about life in the light and total trust that David had in God. In this part we can see David's description of the light of God that provides him with strength, help and sustenance.

The second part from 7 to 14 David culminated his most difficult moments with songs of praise and adoration to God. Here we can appreciate David's cry to ask for the provision of the Light of God that gives him that same strength, help and sustenance.

Next we will examine the teachings that Psalm 27 leaves us for our lives and then we will compare it with the passion and death of the Lord Jesus.

psalm 27-5

Jehovah is my Light and my Salvation

Since the invention of electricity, the life of humanity has opened up the possibility of carrying out the activities and tasks of our daily lives. Through electricity, we can have light in the middle of the night, the light illuminates the roads, highways and roads and warns us of the dangers that we can run into while we travel, whether on foot, in a vehicle or in any other way. .

It's very uncomfortable to be without electricity these days. It's even dangerous to walk on unlit roads because we can't see the risks and dangers that lie ahead.

The Light of God opens the panorama of what surrounds us, of what happens around us, shows us where we are traveling and what dangers we face.

Now, to put this into context and understand the path we must follow, it is necessary to have that divine Light that only the Word of God provides us.

According to Psalm 27, we can see that David wanted to follow the path of righteousness to be with God. He only demanded one thing and that was to be in the presence and in the house of God. This is the thread running through all of Psalm 27.

For this, he needed the light of God. In this context, you may wonder where we can find that Light of God that leads us to salvation? Well, the Bible tells us that throughout history, the chosen people of God, followed the light that He provided them while they were in the darkness of the desert, in order to guide them to the promised land (Exodus 13: 17-22 ).

In the New Testament, the Light of God is Jesus through his Word to guide us to the Kingdom of Heaven, which is the promised land. The Word of God is the light to our path. Let's read:

Juan 8: 12

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world; the one that follows mewill not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Salmo 119: 105

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

psalm 27-5

Now, everything that comes from God is light, and what does not come from that light is darkness or darkness and makes us stumble. The Light of God through his Word, allows us to discern what is the will of God that leads us to reach the Kingdom of Heaven, or as David would say, the land of the living or the house of Jehovah.

According to the Word of God, those who reached the promised land are those who followed the pillar of fire. Jesus tells us the same thing, those of us who follow him through faith will go to the Kingdom of Heaven. This biblical passage from the New Testament reveals to us that Jesus claims that light from the pillar of fire.

On the other hand, the Lord tells us that we must follow him in order to reach the promised land. How to do it? Jesus tells us how:

Matthew 10: 38

38 and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.

psalm 27-6

This means that we must die to our carnal passions and do the will of God. Live according to the design of life that God has for his children. It is reversing the decomposition of the human being to a life of obedience, dying to our own opinions and living in the Truth of God and that provides us with the security that we are not going to make a mistake, because it is God who tells us what the correct decision is. For our lives.

The first part of Psalm 27 refers us to the Almighty God, El Shaddai. If we are under God's cover, there is nothing and no one who can harm us. Just as Psalm 91 tells us.

Here is a link that will allow you to delve into Psalm 91 that reveals the powerful protection of God in our lives. Enter this link Psalm 91

At this point it seems important to us to reveal an important topic in the following link that deals with Resurrection of Jesus . Likewise, in this topic we have already warned that God is Light and his sheep that listen to his voice will follow him, as Jesus tells us in the Parable of the Good Shepherd, so read the following link entitled Psalm 27

psalm 27-7

Analysis of Part II of Psalm 27: Intimacy with God

The second part reveals David's intimacy and communion with God where he cried out for mercy, raised songs of praise.

In the context of Holy Communion, the Lord Jesus warns them that one of them is going to betray him. Juan, the beloved servant of Jesus was next to him, on his side Peter was in front and he signs to Juan so that he asks him who the traitor would be.

We cannot deny that Peter loved God, yet there were times when his disciples did not recognize their Lord (John 21: 2-7). This is often the case with Christians. Sometimes the Lord speaks to us and we do not recognize his voice.

Just as Peter did, at the most difficult moment in Jesus' life, Peter fled from that army. In contrast to this, David shows intimacy with God, a total and complete trust in the Lord in the most difficult moments of his life.

That intimacy was shown by the beloved servant John when he recognized the Lord in the biblical passage of the boat. From that communion with God comes the protection and care of God.

That fellowship is what Adam and Eve had before they sinned. Then comes Satan's attack to make us lose that intimacy with God and make us vulnerable to his aggressions. Jesus in his death reconciled us with God and opens the way for us to be in the Secret Place. There we will be on a rock high above, protecting ourselves from the turbulent waters that seek to drag us down.

At this point I invite you to reflect on the following questions: If you have a son and he has married, did you not feel some sadness when you knew that he would leave your side for a short time? If he went to another country to live, make his life, didn't you feel that your heart was breaking? This is how the Lord feels when you walk away from Him.

psalm 27-8

Have mercy on me, answer me

In moments of anguish, tribulation and trial it is that sadly we seek God and in God's mercy, the Lord shows us his answer as his children that we are (Number 6:25-26; 1 Chronicles 16:11; Psalms 4 :6; Psalms 31:16; Ezekiel 39:39; Psalms 105:4; Psalms 119:135; Hebrews 12:8)

Through the face we can know a person. If we seek the face of God we can read the soul of God, know God (John 17:3; Hebrews 1:3; Exodus 7:14-17). In this context, to see God is to see Jesus. This implies total dependence on God in everything. The house of God is a house of prayer (John 17:24).

Comparison of Psalm 27 with the passion and death of Jesus

Let's imagine the biblical scenario that hides this psalm. The Lord Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane. There he knew that he was waiting for him, he prayed insatiably, so much was his anguish that he sweat drops of blood.

He asks his disciples to pray for him, however they were asleep. The Lord Jesus sees Judas Iscariot arrive with a mob of people to arrest him. He sold it for thirty pieces of silver.

The passion of Christ is actually considered the most heinous crime committed in history. If you want to deepen your knowledge about the sufferings of the messiah on the cross of Calvary, we invite you to read the following link entitled Passion death and resurrection of Jesus

Let us return to the scene, the Lord Jesus asks Judas with a kiss to sell the Son of Man (Luke 22:39-46; John 18:1-11). However, many scholars of the Word of God agree that Psalm 27 was the thought of Jesus during the suffering of the passion on the cross.

psalm 27-7

Verses 27:1-2

According to the biblical passage of John 18 we can observe the crowd of people who came to learn the Lord. Jesus gives that moment of anguish to his Father.

Salmo 27: 1

Jehovah is my light and my salvation; who will I fear?
Jehovah is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

The teaching that this verse leaves us Christians is that just as David was persecuted by his enemies, just as it happened with our Lord Jesus, we must remember in times of trials, of persecution, let us deliver those moments to our God.

We must have confidence in God, that He is our refuge, our prompt help in those times.

psalm 27-15

Verses 27:2-3

Now, when that mob of people came to arrest the Lord, Jesus asked them who they were looking for and they answered Jesus the Nazarene. When the Lord answers them I AM, they stumbled and fell as described in Psalm 27 in the following verse, let's read:

Psalms 27: 2-3

2 When the wicked, my enemies and my foes, gathered together against me to devour my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war break out against me, I will be confident.

psalm 27-15

Let's contrast it with the biblical passage of the apprehension of Jesus. Here we can see how all those who were there all fell at the feet of Christ. There Jesus showed himself as the Great I AM.

They all gathered together to kill Jesus, but we can be sure that Jesus' thoughts echoed this psalm. Let us then remember as Christians that even if an army of enemies rises, the Lord will defend us and protect us. We must trust in God.

John 18: 4-6

4 But Jesus, knowing all the things that were to happen to him, went ahead and said to them: Whom are you looking for?

5 They answered him: To Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said to them: I am. And Judas, the betrayer, was also with them.

6 When he said to them: I am, they drew back, and fell to the ground.

Verse 27:4

In the middle of this confusing scene, we see a desperate Pedro and draws a sword, cuts off Malco's ear. The Lord tells Peter to put the sword away and reminds him that He came to drink the cup that the Father gave Him.

The deepest desire of Jesus was to return to his Father's house, He wanted to fulfill the task to contemplate the beauty and holiness of God.

To live in the house of Jehovah, Jesus had to fulfill the mission entrusted to him every day. Therefore, his thoughts must be in the following verse:

Salmo 27: 4

4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

John 18: 10-11

10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the servant's name was Malchus.

11 Jesus then said to Peter, Put your sword back into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me?

They are still in Gethsemane, the passion of Christ begins. Everyone is there thinking that they have defeated him, they see Jesus broken. As Jesus walked the paths to reach the Sanhedrin, Jesus remembered that his Father would put him on High.

The enemies of Jesus decided to kill him on the cross, on a tree. However, even though in the flesh the sacrifice would be terrible, Jesus knew that the Father would place him on High with the Creator of the universe.

Despite the suffering, the Lord intended to sing and praise God. Well, the teaching for the Church of God is that in the trial is when we should worship God and praise God. The more they persecute us, the more they attack you, the more diseases attack you is when we should praise God the most.

Psalm 27: 5-6

5 For he will hide me in his tabernacle in the day of evil; He will conceal me in the secret place of his dwelling; He will set me high upon a rock.

6 Then he will lift up my head above my enemies all around me, and I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tabernacle; I will sing and make music to the LORD.

Verses 27:7-10

At the moment when the Lord sees himself alone, abandoned by his disciples; of all the people he healed, he raised up and restored; when he saw that not even his blood brothers were with him, then he sought his refuge in his heavenly Father.

At this point let us remember when Jesus was sought by Mary and her brothers; the Lord reveals that his family are those who do the will of God (Matthew 12: 46-50). We are sure that Jesus remembered that the Father would not abandon him.

The teaching of the biblical passage is that even though everyone abandons you from the test, they do not help you, remember that the Lord will not leave you, nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8; Joshua 1:5; Psalms 94:14; Isaiah 41 :17). Remember that the Lord does not abandon his children.

Psalms 27:7-10

7 Hear, O Lord, my voice when I cry; Have mercy on me, and answer me.

8 My heart hath said of thee, Seek my face. Thy face, O Lord, will I seek;

9 Do not hide your face from me. Do not turn away your servant in anger; You have been my help. Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.

10 Though my father and my mother forsake me, yet the LORD will take me up.

Verses 27:11-13

Let's continue in the biblical passage where Jesus is being given an unfair trial, there participated false witnesses who accused him of having conspired against the kingdom of Herod and Rome.

We know from the testimonies given by Pilate and Herod that they found no fault in Jesus and still crucified him. However, from the thoughts of Jesus, He would remember these verses from Psalm 27.

Psalm 27: 11-13

11 Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me in a straight path because of my enemies.

12 Do not deliver me to the will of my enemies; For false witnesses and those who breathe cruelty have risen against me.

13 I would have fainted unless I believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Let's continue on the scene, Jesus is in front of Caiaphas who could not kill him, they take him to Pilate. This character had been warned by his wife about Jesus (Matthew 27: 1-2). Even knowing that he is innocent he hands him over to death on a cross (Matthew 27: 11-31)

Jesus' thoughts were in the hope of returning to his Father's house, to the land of the living where eternal life for believers is promised.

To apply Psalm 27 to my life, we must keep in mind that the children of darkness are watching when we are wrong to accuse and attack us. Now, let us remember that we must walk the path of righteousness, the path that Jesus outlined for us to reach the Kingdom of God.

Teaching of Verse 27:14

Jesus gives us some advice in this verse. Let us hope in Almighty God, let us hope in God, that our trust be in the Lord.

Salmo 27: 14

14 Wait for the Lord; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

Finally we leave you this prayer based on Psalm 27
