The Virgin of Juquila
These powerful prayers are addressed to the Immaculate Virgin of Juquila, one of the invocations of the Virgin Mary by the Catholic religion. She is the second most idolized virgin after the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico.
His name was taken from the town of Juquila, a place where residents began his veneration. This population is called Santa Catarina Juquila and is located in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico, it stands out because it is inhabited by around 16 ethnic groups, which give this state a great diversity of traditions.
History of the Virgin of Juquila
In the 1552th century in the year XNUMX, the Dominican Friar Jordán de Santa Catalina arrived in the state of Oaxaca from Spain and in his luggage he brought a small carving of the image of the Immaculate Conception. During the time that this friar was evangelizing the inhabitants of the then Amialtepec town, he occupied the services of a young peasant whom he catechized.
Some time later, Friar Jordán asked him to return to Spain and to pay for his services, the young peasant Fray Jordán gave him the image of the Immaculate Conception, which he had brought from Spain. When he gave her the image he told her that he had to continue worshiping her as he taught her. The peasant then took the carving to the hut where this peasant lived.
Miracles of the Virgin of Juquila
According to one version they refer to the miracle that occurred once, there was a fire and the peasant's hut where the image of the Virgin was found was burned. When they went to see what was left of the hut they found that the hut was completely burned and only the image of the Virgin had been left in good condition with only slight burns. Once the virgin was rescued, several miracles began to occur that benefited the surrounding towns.
Also in another version, which is recorded as the first miracle, it occurred in 1633, when the temple where the image was found caught fire and the image of the Virgin of Juquila remained in good condition, only her face smoked a little, leaving it a little black. They tried to clean it to return it to its original color, however, this was not possible. At that time, they believed that it was the will of the virgin that the color of her face be similar to that of her faithful.
This fact was recorded in the painting by Cervantes, in the aforementioned painting the indigenous people are seen returning and finding their houses destroyed, the image of the virgin stands out from the fire and the ashes. Some indigenous people are in a position of prayer to see how miraculously she was saved. From then until today, when December 8 approaches, the indigenous people make a pilgrimage, with faith that the virgin will help them resolve any situation they are going through.
These events led to the beginning of the religious faith and subsequent construction of the chapel from where the Virgin continues to be venerated. Every December 8, festivities and religious acts are held in which faithful from different parts of the country and from other countries congregate to honor Our Immaculate Lady of Juquila.

The carving of the Virgin Our Lady of Juquila, is small, has a height of 30 centimeters and a thickness of 15 centimeters. The image has long hair and her hands are joined on her chest as if she were praying. She is dressed in a long golden robe and a cloak that covers her shoulders as long as her robe.
Coronation of the Virgin
The adoration of the Virgin of Juquila by her faithful has not been conditioned by recognition from the Catholic Church. However, the coronation of the Virgin of Juquila granted by Pope Francis in 2014 was a recognition of the people of Santa Catarina Juquila.
