Professing her love for her faith, she built a third skylight in her tower, as a symbol of the Holy Trinity . Later, when her father visited, she confessed her religious beliefs and rejected the marriage proposal he had arranged. She told him that she had chosen the Son of God as her husband. Dioscorus, outraged, tried to kill his own daughter in the name of the pagan gods he believed in. However, Barbara managed to escape her father by fleeing, but was later captured.

The day of her veneration is December 4th , a cult officially established in 1568 by Saint Pius XII . It is believed that the martyr was born on this date. The origin of this celebration was revealed thanks to Father Claudio de San José , a member of the Carmelite Order , who wrote that the tomb of Saint Barbara was revered by hundreds of followers who claimed to have experienced miracles and been cured of their illnesses.
