Passion death and resurrection of Jesus
The greatest expression of love any human being could have ever experienced was that of Jesus on the cross. It's striking that, before beginning his ministry on Earth, Jesus used tools like a hammer, wood, and nails as a carpenter. These tools would one day be used in his death.
After the unjust trials that Jesus Christ received when appearing before the authorities of the Sanhedrin, Pilate and Herod, which concluded with the liberation of Barabbas and the sentence of his crucifixion, our Lord Jesus Christ was immediately taken to the Roman Praetorium where he was flogged with whips that were they coiled around his body and ripped away the tissues of his skin.
The passion, death and resurrection of Jesus has been the only historical fact that has divided the history of humanity into a before and after and that was prophesied in Isaiah 53:1.
For Christians it represents the redemption of our sins, the gift, the grace that God has given us, since he sent his Son to rescue humanity through the sacrifice on the cross.
The passion
To start the topic regarding the passion death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, it is imperative to remember that it all begins when Judas sells Jesus for thirty silver coins to the priests of the Sanhedrin, who for some time have wanted to capture Jesus Christ.
The Lord invites his Apostles to give course to the Feast of Easter, what we know as the Last Supper of the Lord or the Holy Supper. This fact contains important symbols and meanings for the Christian that announced the death of Christ. During the development of the Easter Feast, Jesus reveals to them that he will be handed over by one of them to the authorities so that God's plan can be fulfilled. After this Jewish commemoration, they went to Mount Gethsemane to pray for what would happen to him. As we can see in the following biblical passage, Jesus and his disciples frequented that place, let's read:
Luke 22: 33
39 And leaving, he left, like i used to to the Mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
Mattheww 7:7-8
38 Then Jesus said to them: My soul is very sad, even to death; stay here, and watch with me.
39 Going a little further, he fell on his face, praying and saying: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; but not as I want, but as you.
This deep sadness that Jesus felt, produced in Him a bleeding through the skin. This phenomenon is scientifically called hematidrosis, which is a bloody sweat produced by a very high emotional state that causes the sweat glands to hemorrhage in the skin. This phenomenon weakens the epidermis
Luke 22: 44
44 And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and her sweat was like great drops of blood that fell to the ground
Mark 14: 33
33 And he took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be sad and distressed.
This fragility in his skin produced greater weakness at the time of receiving the whipping, beatings and torture to which he was subjected, which allowed him to bleed much more when they flogged him. This bleeding and the expulsion of bodily fluids allowed him to quickly become dehydrated.

The fear of Jesus
To continue with the theme regarding the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, it is essential to mention that the Lord had control over his own death. He laid down his life out of love for humanity so that it might be redeemed from eternal death. Therefore, to say that Jesus was afraid to die is far from the truth.
Jesus' fear is that he had never been separated from his Father. He was aware that the Father would depart from Him at the moment of bearing the sins of humanity. When we refer to the Father, we speak of the Trinity.
We must clarify at this point that Jesus had two natures in his person, the divine nature and the human nature. The latter is the one that would carry the sins of the world, since God made flesh (John 1:1) could not contaminate himself with sin.
Let us remember that the wages of sin is death; the Father dwells in Holiness and light; in the midst of the praise of the people of him, he therefore had to turn his back at the time the crucifixion occurred. When the darkness covers Jesus the Father could not be in that dimension. The Father had to leave him alone. This fact Jesus knew and that was his fear.
Being in Gethsemane, once learned by the guards, the true bodily suffering and the passion of Christ begin. As they walked along the road, he was repeatedly beaten, insulted and humiliated.

Jesus before Caiaphas
It is important to note that all this happened the night of his capture. During all this time, he was constantly mocked and beaten. In the morning Christ was before the elders of the Sanhedrin and the main priests, after a whole night of torture and ridicule.
For any human being, this would be impossible to bear, and at that point, physical strength begins to fail. Not to mention the hopelessness and sadness that would invade our hearts. However, Jesus endured it without saying a single word in his defense.
Luke 22: 63-64
63 And the men who guarded Jesus mocked him and beat him;
64 and blindfolding him, they struck him in the face, and asked him, saying: Prophet, who is it that struck you?
Jesus before Pilate
Since the Jewish council had no authority or power to sentence someone to death, they decided to take him to Pilate, who was the governor at the time of Jesus. However, since Pilate found no fault in Jesus, he did not sentence him.
Lucas 23: 4
4 And Pilate said to the chief priests, and to the people: I find no crime in this man.
The people who were there and who wanted the death of Christ began to speak lies and to riot. Pilate, seeing this, sent him to King Herod, since Jesus was from Galilee.
Jesus before Herod
Let us remember that Jesus was a prisoner who had already been beaten and humiliated from the very moment of his arrest. Going to the house of the High Priest, then to Pilate and later to Herod, makes us suppose that Jesus was experiencing a strong exhaustion, since he had to move on foot even when he was tortured.
When Jesus Christ appeared before Herod, the king was truly happy, as he longed for Christ to perform a sign in his presence. They had never met before, but Herod had heard about the Messiah. Remember that this man liked to listen to John the Baptist.
Seeing that Jesus remained silent at his questions and made no sign, he greatly mocked him and sent him back to Pilate.
Lucas 23: 11
11 Then Herod with his soldiers despised and mocked him, dressing him in splendid clothing; And he sent Pilate again.
Death warrant
Before the death sentence Pilate's wife had a revelation about Jesus and she was very afraid warning her husband not to prosecute him.
Pilate warned of this fact, appropriates the tradition of releasing a prisoner on the feast day, in order to avoid sentencing Jesus to death on the cross. Gathered the Israelite people, Pilate lets them know that he would release a prisoner and sent for Barrabas. What is surprising about this is that they decided to release Barabbas and continued to demand the death of Jesus. Those same people who received miracles, who were healed and restored were the same people who were crying out for his death.
So it was done, and once sentenced to death, he was taken to the Roman praetorium to be flogged. Normally this was done by the Romans to everyone who was sentenced to the cross so that his death would be faster.
Mattheww 7:7-8
27 Then the governor's soldiers brought Jesus into the praetorium, and gathered the whole company around him;
28 And stripping him naked, they put a scarlet robe on him,
29 and they put on his head a crown woven of thorns, and a reed in his right hand; and kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying: Hail, King of the Jews!
The degree of blood loss in a flagellation does not allow the body to survive on the cross; time is minimal. The loss of blood creates a state of hypovolemic shock, which means that there is a decrease in blood volume and therefore the volume that goes to the heart.
Christ does not die by bleeding. Jesus was so weakened by the scourging that Christ had difficulty carrying a 50-pound wooden cross that ripped through his shoulder.
Matthew 27: 32
32 As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene named Simon; he was forced to carry the cross.
From the Roman Praetorium to Mount El Calvario there were 900 meters, almost 1 kilometer. When they ripped off the purple cloak that clung to his skin, product of the blood, they tore more of his wounds and opened hers.
What is described here as the passion of Christ does not resemble the suffering that Jesus actually underwent. Let's imagine for a moment when we get stuck with a needle or when we accidentally cut ourselves in the kitchen and complain. Jesus while being tortured never uttered a single word in defense of him.
Jesus is sentenced to death
Crucifixion and death of Jesus
The cross of Christ was located on Mount Gólgotha or place of the skull. Once the nails were placed in his hands and feet, only the inevitable, death, was expected. Even when those who desired the death of Jesus achieved their goal. They did not stop mocking, not even seeing him suffer raw all the mistreatment for which his body was taken.
Mattheww 7:7-8
39 And those who passed by reviled him, shaking their heads,
40 and saying, You who destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Jesus was nailed between the radius and carpus in his wrist, likely damaging the periosteum, which causes great pain. The nails pierced the median nerve, which must have caused an intense spasm of pain, causing the hands to become claw-like as the ligaments are trapped in the path of the nails.
The nails from the feet went through the tarsal bones, which does not cause significant bleeding, but it does cause great pain.
What causes the death of Jesus is the interference of breathing, which while trying to breathe produced cramps throughout the body, from the head to the feet. Every time Jesus wanted to breathe it was agony.
The sum of dehydration, cardiac arrhythmia and carbon dioxide retention in the lungs hastened his death. When the Roman soldiers saw that the victim was dead, they broke the bones of the knees so that they would finish suffocating. However, Jewish law forbade their bones to be broken. The centurion pierced him with a spear from left to right.
According to the testimony of the disciple John, at the moment the spear was pierced, he saw a drop of blood come out with a drop of water. Scientists explain that this is because the heart has three layers: the endocardium; then a muscular layer that is the myocardium; then comes the pericardium which consists of two layers: visceral pericardium and parietal pericardium.
In between these two layers there is a lubricating fluid that facilitates the pumping and movements of the heart – pericardial cavity. However, when the spear pierces his side, Christ was already dead.
John 19: 34
34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
Medical science affirms that Christ dies because his pericardium, the membrane that surrounds the heart, bursts. The amazing thing about this is that a thousand years before the death of Christ in Psalm 22 written by King David it indicates what the messiah would die of.
Jesus crucified for each of our sins
Psalm 22: 12 – 17
12 Many bulls have surrounded me; mighty bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
13 They opened their mouths upon me Like a ravenous and roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax, melting in my bowels.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth, and you have laid me in the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encircled me; They have pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones; Meanwhile, they look at me and observe me.
Christ dies of moral pain. He explodes her heart. He bursts. His heart burst for our sins.
Isaiah 53: 3-5
3 Despised and rejected among men, a man of sorrows, experienced in brokenness; and as we hid his face from him, he was despised, and we did not esteem him.
4 Surely he bore our sicknesses, and suffered our pains; and we considered him scourged, wounded by God and dejected.
5 But he was wounded for our rebellions, crushed for our sins; the punishment of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed.
The most beautiful and the most important lesson that the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus gives us is that even on the Cross, he cried out to the Father asking for the forgiveness of those who persecuted and crucified him. There he includes all of us who have been redeemed by his sacrifice.
Once the perfect work of our Lord Jesus on the cross was completed, there was a great earthquake on earth, which ripped and broke the rocks of the city and the Temple.

Nails to crucify Jesus

Jesus was placed in the tomb that Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of His, had given. There was the body of Jesus, the tomb being guarded by Roman guards. This was because the Lord Jesus had already spoken of his resurrection, so the priests asked to guard the tomb during those three days so that they could not steal the body of the Lord.
Mattheww 7:7-8
59 And Joseph taking the body, wrapped it in a clean sheet,
60 and he put it in his new tomb, which he had hewn out of the rock; and after rolling a great stone at the entrance of the tomb, he went away.
Resurrection of Christ
On the third day, just as our Lord had prophesied, the bonds of death could not hold him. A new Covenant had been made between God and men. For his love we were called children of God and today we have Salvation thanks to his passion.
That day there was an earthquake caused by the presence of an angel of the Lord who came to Earth to remove the stone that sealed the tomb. Our Lord Jesus had risen.
Mattheww 7:7-8
2 And there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven and coming, rolled away the stone, and sat on it.
3 Her appearance was like lightning, and her dress was white as snow.
4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and remained as dead.
