The Island of Temptations 3

  • Temptation Island 3 shows that crying has no gender, promoting a more sensitive vision of masculinity.
  • Relationships require effective communication to solve problems and grow together.
  • Personal empowerment is achieved by learning to say no and setting limits.
  • Sisterhood among women is on the rise, overcoming stigmas of competition and rivalry.

I could write a long list of all the errors, barbarities and contradictions seen in the star program of this season of Telecinco. But, today, I am benevolent. Maybe because I've been on vacation, maybe because spring makes me cheesy or maybe because I'm a little tired of seeing the dark side of life. The Island of Temptations 3 has given us great moments and better memes. And, if we start looking with a magnifying glass, we can get some other learning from all these Thursdays that my dearest roommate and I have been hooked on. «On Thursdays the plastic is removed and Telecinco is seen». Almost a tradition. Not a program has passed without having to cover our heads with the blanket in moments of pure embarrassment and dying of laughter at the atrocities committed against the Spanish language. And how sad were those Thursdays in which we had to see him separated and in which we did not take off the phone without stopping to write that "LOL" so badly used every 3 seconds!

I know, and it was almost my first focus before I started this, that each episode is brimming with toxic love, jealousy, possession, insecurities of some and manipulations of others. I know. I suppose (and I hope) that there will be more serious media than this one that will analyze it and show it. But the postmodernity that defines me and guides these fingers while I write does not allow me to do anything but bring out the good and turn the tables a bit in favor of reality. Let's proceed.

The Island of Temptations 3: Apprenticeships

What we have learned with the third edition of the Island of Temptations

men cry too.

Finally, really. Finally, we see that crying has no gender, that woman is not synonymous with sea of tears no man of steel for ships (as my grandfather would say). We, women of the world, have been branded as "too" sensitive, as if that were something negative, as if feeling were a crime.

And, we see that Hugo, the Galician who has won the hearts of half the peninsula, in this program is dehydrated by his girlfriend. "I'm a crybaby" says the animal lover. And she, who knows what she's used to, my poor thing, is amazed and lets out a “I didn't expect it at all. He never cries." But enough is enough. The categorization of actions according to gender is over: there are no verbs for women and men. Crying, luckily, is for everyone.

Which brings us to the next point:

Masculinity, as we know it, is in crisis.

Men who kiss, hug, sleep together, talk about feelings, acknowledge their vulnerability, and say "I love you" with astonishing ease. It seems unbelievable that a human being has to defend their right to be human. It seems unbelievable that feeling is revolutionary. But, friends, that is your revolution. Up with her.

Sorority is gaining ground.

I'm fed up with the misogyny of phrases like "it's just that among you you are bad" or "you are the most sexist". We have been victims of a system that defends the competition of its constituents, which has pushed us to be worse among ourselves to the point that it was right (and even outside cool) state that they feel better among men than among women, belonging to the latter group. And, in the program, although the great change that still needs to be made is evident, the change in attitudes is also obvious, the support between them despite their rivalries and differences, the brotherhood that they show when they have needed it the most.

It's okay to say NO.

And I take this as a personal learning. When Lara (the single woman who was dating Raúl and ended up hooking up with Jesús) turned down the final 24-hour date with Marina's boyfriend, I realized that, for me, that wasn't even a possibility. She shocked me to such an extent that she made me see that I would not have been able, just like when in First Dates they say that They wouldn't have a second date with his dinner partner and it seems to me like a superpower totally alien to my abilities. And it is that saying NO makes us strong, empowers us, frees us. A bad drink for a second that is a vaccine against conformism.

Therefore, this honest answer from Lara where she explains that this casual entanglement had been the fruit of the night and that Jesus was lost, stirred something in me. And what is learning but movement? Something that is not and now it is. Something you didn't know how to do but now you do.

Talking is necessary for a relationship to work.

As always, one of the great problems in relationships is the lack of communication and the lack of interest of one of its members in learning to communicate. In the final bonfire of Raúl-Claudia and Hugo-Lara, we see how the two demand an evolution in their partners regarding this issue. Lara says that Hugo does not know how to deal with problems, he avoids them and runs away with his tail between his legs. While Claudia complains about the immaturity of her partner, she complains about not having felt heard or understood and not being able to have adult conversations regarding her relationship. And they have lasted 4 and 3 years, respectively. Sisters, patience is your gift.

In this bonfire, and faced with the fear of losing them, they promise to improve. Because, friends, admitting a failure is beautiful. Being wrong and knowing how to see it is the best thing that can happen to us. And, of course, talking about all this is healthy and helps to resolve difficulties, to find a common and balanced solution and to avoid ending up shouting as if we had not overcome the rebels 16.

And, aside from all this, to finish, because it is relevant and because I am passionate about it, I leave the decalogue of the conscious couple, by Borja Vilaseca (for those who do not know him, a speaker who promotes personal development and self-knowledge) that we can perfectly relate him to everything we have learned from the Island of Temptations 3:

❤ I am responsible for my happiness, not yours.

❤ I am responsible for my suffering, not yours.

❤ I consciously choose you and you consciously choose me.

❤ I know myself through you and you know yourself through me.

❤ I learn from you and you learn from me.

❤ You don't complete me, but you complement me.

❤ I accept you as you are and you accept me as I am.

❤ I respect your freedom and you respect my freedom.

❤ I communicate with you and you communicate with me.

❤ I put my freedom at the service of the relationship and you put yours.
