Is Doja Cat Racist? Can a black, African-American, South African (and Jewish) woman insult the black community? Doja Cat, the artist of the moment thanks to Hit Say So (No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100 until, coincidentally, this week), has found itself immersed in a controversy that includes American far-right supremacist chat rooms. And all, the same weekend that an old song, titled dindu nuffin, where poor Doja Cat isn't doing her public image any favors either." Below in Postposmo we explain all the details of the story behind the phenomenon #DojaCatIsOverParty, the latest avalanche coming from the cancel culture from Internet.
First of all, is Doja Cat black or white?
We know, the question brings them. Although the question should be meaningless, in the US the racial question is always floating in the air for better and for worse. Doja Cat has a skin tone similar to that of Drake, Beyoncé and so many others light black including the former president himself Barack Obama already the legend Prince: black, yes, but somewhat decaffeinated in tone compared to any neighbor in Nigeria or the Congo.

It is said, and absolutely nothing happens. In a country whose urban culture is and has been marked in recent decades by positive discrimination movements of the affirmative action, one talks about skin tones with the same ease with which one comments on hairstyles.
The label, far from being a taboo, is normalized in the snake (casual talk) and American urban culture. In fact, being a "light skin" has been one of the obstacles that Drake El Inmortal has had to draw from the beginning of his career (and that earned him a good beef with Pusha T). Like be black, but not tan black, in a way it would have given him some kind of advantage in the recording world.
Yeah I'm light-skinned, but I'm still a dark nigga
I'm light skinned but they're still a dark nigga; Drake's verse in his song Nonstop, opening disc Scorpion

Is Doja Cat Racist? is what many are wondering after their recent ... discoveries
Having said that, It seems that the singer Doja Cat does not like having a black heritage. As much as she has backed down in the last few hours (public statement included), the mountain of evidence that the 24-year-old artist would have preferred to be born white has accumulated on our table:
- Participation (about 5 years ago) in white supremacist TinyChat rooms and in which she admits not wanting to be black, Serie of clearly racist jokes, and even flirts and shows his butt. tinychat is the name of a website that allows you to participate in group video calls with strangers. It is like omegle.com but with a little more order and thematic separation (and less penises, thank God).

- Publication of a theme in 2015 (buried and semi-forgotten in his catalog) where he laughs at black people who say they have been victims of police abuse. Titled Dindu Nuffin, the expression is a simplification (coined by David Duke, of the Klu Klux Klan racist group of Didn't do nothing which alludes to the locution par excellence of everyone accused of a crime. In this case, in American popular culture it is associated with black victims of racist attacks by police authorities: "He hit me and I hadn't done anything."
- tweet from a few days ago: «Thinking about being black can depress any sensitive person. Just think about it: Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to be white? The road would make sense.
- And since we are here (and to finish reviewing the many controversies that have hit poor Doja Cat recently) we must remember one of the tricks that the singer has used to reach the number 1 position. Despite what say so It is the song of the moment in the social network TikTok, Doja Cat promised that she would bare her breasts in full if the song reached the top of Billboard. Eye here.
Clarification: It's not that we're dying to see Doja Cat or Nicki Minaj naked (in fact, we don't really care, anyone who watches their videos could, in a certain way, ensure that they have already seen Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat naked (and Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and, well, practically every pop artist mainstream, luckily or unfortunately).

We just say that It's ugly to lie to the public like that. Lying looking someone in the face through a promise that later is not such. Whatever the promise. We had to say it. We don't quite understand if this martingale marketinian from Doja was sexist or feminist. We only know that Doja Cat lied. And who lies once...
- Doja Cat vs. Tyler the Creator. A couple of years ago, Doja Cat insulted the great artist Tyler Creator (grammy 2019 for best rap album with Igor) calling him "faggot" (fagot). Shortly after, he would take the iron off the matter. Anyway, didn't Eminem do the same thing for years with the entire LGTBI community? In fact, Eminem also called fagot to Tyler himself on his album Kamikace. Ironically, Tyler The Creator is currently the most talented, original and inspired of these three artists.
Doja Cat apologizes for accusations of racism
After the storm of reactions on Twitter and Instagram (where the singer has lost more than 100.000 followers), Doja Cat has published a clarifying statement:
«I want to clarify what has been happening on Twitter. I have used public chat rooms to socialize since I was little. I shouldn't have been in some of those rooms, but I personally haven't been involved in any racist conversations. I feel sorry for all the people who have felt offended.
I am a black woman. Half of my family is South African and black, and I am very proud of where I come from. And regarding the old song that has seen the light, it was not related to anything that I had not experienced personally. It was written in response to people regularly using the term to refer to me. I tried to turn its meaning on its head, but I admit that it was a bad decision to use the term in my music.
I understand my influence and my impact and I am taking all of this very seriously. I love you and I'm so sorry I hurt or bothered any of you. That's not my way, and I'm determined to show you all that it's like that from here on out. Thanks."
