In this wonderful article, you will learn what devotional life is and what its biblical meaning is. Consider this post an invitation to grow spiritually by having daily and constant communion with the Lord.
What is a devotional life?
Before explaining the meaning of devotional life, let's find out what the word devotion means, it is defined as a deep dedication, towards something or someone, in a devotional moment, we have a dedication with God.
So let's see what a devotional is. It refers to a special time of communion with God. Where we can listen and talk to the Lord through prayer and bible reading. This allows us to listen and put into practice his word in our lives. A devotional life is to be daily in communion with God.
The greatest example that we can take is the devotional life that Jesus had, which is explained in Matthew 14: 23; Mark 1:35; and in Luke 9:18; 29. In all of these verses, Jesus is spoken of as turning aside and praying. In fact, in Mark 1:35 he says that he got up early in the morning to pray. Following the example of Jesus is important in the life of the Christian, and this appears in the Bible in (2 John 2: 6).
We can see in Matthew 6: 6 that the Word of God tells us that when we pray or do our devotions, we must enter our room and close the door, it is important that nothing interrupt our communion with God. It is also important that we do this daily, because every day God has something to say to us at all times and meditate all day on his word. As the word says in (Psalms 1:2).
Tips for a good devotional
- It is very important to set aside a moment of the day. If necessary, put a reminder on your cell phone to set a time, in which we can do our devotional without interruptions.
- Choose a place, where we can do our devotional in secret, as we saw earlier in (Mark 6: 6).
- Pray to begin, in this way our intimacy with the Lord begins, and we can ask His help in following this devotional. Also in this prayer we can present our problems, concerns and requests.
- It is good to choose a book of the Bible to read and meditate on what God expresses to us in this word and how we can apply this in our lives.
- It ends with a prayer, in this way, we ask the Lord to help us use His teachings in our day to day.
