Analysis of the work

In its recent adaptation as a television series starring Amy Adams, The Book of Open Wounds takes us by the hand with Camille on her return to her hometown, where, in addition to covering the events that indicate the actions of a serial killer, she has to face her greatest fears.

The story of the plot becomes very intimate, since it is narrated in the first person from Camille's point of view and catches you from the first glance, achieving in very few sentences that you empathize with this character and understand his decisions and his motivations.

At times, the plot is lost to favor the psychological and personal journey of the protagonist, which does not affect the rhythm in any way, since this introspective process of Camille only manages to enrich the events that are happening around her.

The story is full of complex and deep characters, among which the protagonist and her mother stand out, a very difficult, cold and manipulative woman, who is a light in the community of her neighbors who admire her with fervor and darkness in the intimacy of his family who has to suffer his obsessions.

The narration is immensely descriptive, full of details that make it very easy for you to locate yourself in the town of Wind Gap, with the feeling that you know its streets and all its neighbors.

In the book we are presented with a fairly faithful semblance of what is the society of a small town located in the American Midwest, with its customs, its family relationships and its intolerance.

The story features characters spanning the entire spectrum of human emotions, tortured and traumatized by their pasts, mothers who didn't want to be mothers, cruel and abusive children, and utterly unpredictable twists and turns.
