Who was Saint Cajetan?
Saint Cajetan was born on October 1480, 12 in Vicenza near Venice, Italy. He is known for professing mysticism while daring to face any person of his time by creating the Theatine order, for which he gave his life to maintain peace and thus become a Saint on April 1671, XNUMX.
Cayetano was the son of the Counts of Thiene, that is, of María Porto and Gaspar, and his name is in honor of his uncle, who died months before his birth. Both Cayetano and his brothers, Alejandro and Juan Bautista, were left completely alone, as their parents died just when they were both teenagers.
Cayetano's youth was transformed by his interest in the world of law, so he decided to pursue his dream of pursuing a law degree. At the Law School, he was elected by his classmates to the position of student representative, and was sometimes praised by his professors for his high grades.
Despite being highly esteemed, Cajetan did not believe in the importance of being praised, as he was only interested in doing what was right and did not care what people said about him, even though his humility was often the quality that shone most brightly in those around him. However, by 1506, at the age of twenty-five, Cajetan was elected protonotary apostolic to the court of Pope Julius II, thanks to the great influence of his family.
Being within the court, he was often identified as the man of aid, since despite holding a high position, he didn't mind dressing the way he had before and helped people both rich and poor both during and outside of his work hours. Thus, one could clearly see the potential Cayetano possessed, and it was clear that he would become a very important figure in his later years.
In addition to being an acclaimed lawyer, Cajetan also had other interests that led him to seek ways to maintain peace between peoples. This interest was carried out with the help of a small group of diplomats who gave their support to avoid a war between the Republic of Venice and the Papal States, thus gaining prestige among many people of high authority.
As the years went by, Cayetano, upon being named a Saint, realized that every priority he had in his life went hand in hand with the path of faith, so he made the decision to show everyone that God is always around, so he stopped being a lawyer to become a priest.
By September 30, 1516, at the age of thirty-six, Cajetan became a priest to begin his apostolic work in Venice. However, seeing the exclusive luxuries of the palaces, he became concerned about how money was wasted while poverty prevailed in the suburbs. His concern for the needy even led him to create a place of refuge for the poor, which demonstrates his dedication to helping others. Cayetano decided to build the first Infectious Diseases Hospital to improve people's access to healthcare, but despite his intentions, he didn't have enough money to pay the best doctors or feed the sick. Looking for a way to continue running the hospital, he decided to sell his library, despite it being his last possession. He didn't mind remaining in poverty, as he wanted to help those most in need of wealth and health.
Over time, in Germany, the ruler Martin Luther proclaimed that the Pope should be separated from the Roman Church, making it independent, so Cajetan, upon learning of the announcement, took the initiative to return to the church to the sacred sanctuary of Christ.
However, despite not having much support, Pope Clement VII approved the idea, so without thinking twice, Cajetan, along with a group of companions, assured that they would be the celibates of the church, they would not own income or land, so they would be poor and would only accept donations from the townspeople. This decision to live modestly, as indicated in the Virgin of Saint Nicholas, aims to reflect a life centered on faith and a spirit of service.
They asked for this because wealth does not bring peace or freedom to the apostle. Cayetano and his group also asked not to live within the convent and monastery, since they will live in simple houses so they can communicate directly with the Pope while they dedicate themselves to helping the poor, sick and prisoners, in addition to studying the Bible and the liturgy to call themselves Regular Clerics. These Clerics Regular used to live in Rome in a very simple, small house on Via Leonina. Among them was Bishop Carafa, who would later become Pope Paul IV. When this happened, many young people began to join the group, so they had to move to a larger house on the outskirts of the city.
On May 6, 1527, Emperor Charles V sent his troops to rob Rome, seizing all the property they could find, while raping women, desecrating temples, and burning houses. However, the Pope managed to escape through the secret tunnels, but what he didn't expect was that the troops would arrive at the Clerics' house to demand money.
The Regular Clerics, lacking the funds the troops demanded, had to watch as Cayetano was tortured with a rope, stretching him with a pulley until he fainted. The troops then beat each of them for being poor. Unable to get anything and angry, the troops took them prisoner to try to extort ransom money from each of their families, threatening them that if they didn't hand over the money they had demanded, they would die like the others. Seeing this situation, the Clerics had no choice but to surrender themselves to God for safe passage.
After several days, the guards' leader released them, convinced that he would not get any money for them. Once free, they all left Rome on a ship of the Republic of Venice to return to their homeland. Cajetan, without hesitation, headed to Naples to live among the people. However, without success, he had to contradict several religious leaders, who did not believe that he was a faithful devotee of God.
Later, Cayetano, seeing the misery of the people, decided to found a small shelter for those who were living a bad life, and thus, with the word of God, he could save them from evil. In addition to this shelter, Cayetano also sought a way to build a Banco Popular (People's Bank) where people could apply for interest-free loans, but over time, this bank became a business of usurious lenders. Cayetano, at just sixty-six years old, was gravely ill, and so he requested communion so he could die in peace. However, at five o'clock in the afternoon on August 7, 1547, Cayetano left the earthly plane. On April 12, 1671, the Pope declared him a saint, along with Luis Beltrán and Rosa de Lima, who were promoters of the gospel throughout Latin America.

The following prayer should be said first thing in the morning while placing a white candle with the name written on it to ask Saint Cajetan for help in finding a decent and stable job:
