Biography and life of Saint Erastus of Corinth

Saint Erastus of Corinth was a XNUMXth-century Christian physician and bishop. He was born in the city of Corinth, Greece, into a wealthy family. Although his father was a pagan, Erastus was raised in the Christian faith and studied medicine.

Erastus practiced as a doctor for some time, but soon felt the call of the Lord to serve him in another way. In the year 313, he and other Christians were exiled from Corinth by order of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. They settled in Laodicea, where Erastus served as a deacon in the local church.

In the year 316, Bishop Melquíades died and Erastus was chosen to succeed him. He began to preach with great success and soon gained fame as a great religious leader.

In the mid-30th century, the Roman Emperor Julian "the Apostate" tried to restore paganism to Rome and ousted the Christian bishops from office. Erasto was banished to Tarsus, where he died soon after. He is considered a saint by the Catholic Church and his memory is celebrated on August XNUMX.Prayer to Saint Erastus of Corinth
