Separated by fate and beset by family conflicts, Juliet decides to take a non-lethal poison to fake her death and escape with Romeo. However, the message with the plan doesn't reach Romeo, who believes Juliet is truly dead. Consumed by grief, he takes poison in front of Juliet's body. When Juliet awakens and finds Romeo dead beside her, she decides to end her own life by stabbing herself.
The story of these lovers, consumed by family hatred and misfortune, manages to unite the two families, who find reconciliation in their shared sense of loss. Cleopatra VII, the last queen of Egypt, and the Roman general Mark Antony starred in one of the most famous love and power stories of antiquity.
Cleopatra ascended to the throne during a period marked by political instability and the search for alliances to consolidate the kingdom of Egypt. Upon the death of Julius Caesar, who had been Cleopatra's ally and lover, she decided to meet with Mark Antony in Tarsus.
Attracted by her intelligence and charisma, the Roman saw in Cleopatra an opportunity to strengthen his position in the Roman world and the eastern Mediterranean. Together they formed a political and personal alliance. Cleopatra offered him resources and military support, while Mark Antony promised to protect Egypt. They also embarked on a romantic relationship that sparked rumors and controversy. And finally, speaking of my home region, the story of the Lovers of Teruel. It tells of two childhood friends, Diego and Isabel, who fell in love in the 13th century, but because he was the second son (and therefore would not inherit a fortune), their love seemed impossible.
Diego decides to go to war after an agreement with Isabel's father to make his fortune within a certain timeframe. However, the lack of news from Diego, coupled with Isabel's father's impatience and rumors of Diego's death, lead Isabel to marry Don Pedro de Azagra just three days before the agreed-upon deadline. At that moment, Diego returns victorious, with money and fame, to claim his beloved's hand, only to find her married to another man.
Upon hearing this devastating news, Diego asks Isabel for a single kiss in return for all the years he has spent in the war , a kiss to show her that it is truly him she loves and that she was forced to marry him, one kiss and nothing more. Isabel, being married and a respectable woman, refuses, and Diego falls dead at her feet.
During Diego's funeral, a hooded figure in mourning approaches the altar and kisses him on the lips. It is Isabel, finally giving him the kiss she had denied him in life, just before falling dead and thus reuniting with her beloved in eternity.
Legend or reality?
This story has been passed down through generations among the people of Teruel. The tombs of Diego and Isabel were discovered, and it was decided to bury them together. Today, every February, the entire city celebrates the story of its lovers, decorating the streets and dressing in medieval attire for a reenactment that involves everyone who wants to participate.
